Tuner Special: Lumma Design CLR X650

WINTERLINGEN, Germany — Lumma Design has modified BMW's X6 crossover with a radical body kit, engine tuning and new suspension parts and named it the CLR X650. Lumma has increased the power output from BMW's 4.4-liter V8 by tuning the engine computer, but hasn't said what kind of increases can be expected.

The company has also created a gas pedal power module that adjusts the calibration of the accelerator for faster response. Under the hood, Lumma has added a red engine cover and carbon intake tubes. A sport suspension lowers the X6 1.4 inches over 23-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin rubber.

The entire body kit, including a front fascia, rear bumper, fender flares and side skirts, is made of carbon fiber. Fender flares add almost 2 inches in width to each side of the X6. Headlight eyelids, new mirrors and darkened taillights further the styling transformation.

Lumma also offers a number of interior modifications, trimming much of the upholstery in leather and Alcantara and providing new gauges, floor mats and aluminum pedals. The company also offers 7.5-inch monitors mounted in the custom headrests.

Inside Line says: BMW's X6 is turning out to be the go-to vehicle for over-the-top tuners. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
