ARESING, Germany — BMW specialist G-Power trots out one more special edition of the X5, dubbed Typhoon Black Pearl, with a supercharged 4.8-liter V8 cranking out 617 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
That extra dollop of performance is dished out from an ASA supercharger (which replaces the stock twin turbos), with exhaust exiting through a Speedflow stainless-steel system with racing headers and sport catalysts.
G-Power also has massaged the BMW six-speed gearbox and says the combination will enable 0-60-mph acceleration in less than 4.5 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 186 mph.
A classic G-Power aero body kit bundles front, rear and side skirts, fender extensions, enlarged air intakes, a rear diffuser and a rear wing mounted on the tailgate.
The Black Pearl rides on Michelin 315/25ZR23 rubber, mounted on 23-inch G-Power Silverstone alloy rims.
G-Power offers a variety of cockpit modifications, including a sport steering wheel and custom Typhoon speedo, along with carbon-fiber accents and leather and ultrasuede trim.
In Europe, the Typhoon Black Pearl is available for $412,000.

The whole concept is similar to putting on Nike Shox on a pig.
