- G-Power has taken the wraps off of its aerodynamic package for the face-lifted 2011 BMW X5.
- Called the Typhoon, the package includes a wide-body kit, 23-inch wheels and a carbon-fiber hood with air vents.
- The body kit adds 2.75 inches to the car's width.
AUTENZELL, Germany — The German tuning house G-Power is now offering its Typhoon-brand aero body kit for the face-lifted 2011 BMW X5.
Like most G-Power kits, the Typhoon package includes some elaborate exterior treatments, with the addition of a wide-body kit that bundles new front and rear bumpers, rear diffuser, spoiler and fenders that widen the body by 2.75 inches. Twenty-three-inch forged wheels wrapped in 315/25R23 Michelin rubber give the SUV a commanding stance. A lightweight carbon-fiber hood also helps cut weight and features strategically placed vents to help with engine cooling.
In the performance department, G-Power offers a stainless-steel sport exhaust equipped with a silencer and a variety of chip sets that squeeze a couple extra horses out of the X5's factory power plant.
Interior accessories like a sport steering wheel, new speedometer that tops out at 160 mph and aluminum pedals are available as well, and G-Power can further modify the upholstery at the buyer's request.
Inside Line says: G-Power gives the X5 a mean new look that enthusiasts will either love or hate.

I think its nice, although not very practical for the money. More than likely will never see dirt, and definetely the performance will suffer.

You know what kind of modification/package for the X5 would be worth the money?
A modification/package to make the X5 actually capable of going off road.

"They are going to get sued by GM, they already built a Typhoon 1992-1993"
I don't know. Based on their attitudes towards defects, you could claim that the "New" GM never made that vehicle although I'm sure that the got all the trademarks. But how can they say it will cause customer confusion with a product they didn't make.
It might fall to the old GM.

Hideous. The GMC Typhoon was better looking in my opinion!

I think the only somewhat decent looking angle is from the front, but even there, the out of proportion led lights seem wrong. The side and rear view is just not attractive in the least. The GM version of the Typhoon was better looking IMHO. Performance has to suffer as well, given the added unsprung weight of the wheels and tires.

Hmm, I guess this is for those who want an X5 with almost M3-like ground clearance...

I can't imagein that adding nearly 3 inches of width to this actually improves aerodynamics.
Moreover, a "lightweight" hood won't begin to offset the extra mass of that body kit and those huge wheels and tires.
Dislike.
