MUNICH, Germany — BMW Deutschland is offering European customers a sneak preview of the redesigned 2011 X3 on the company's Web site, several months ahead of the vehicle's expected debut at the 2010 Paris Auto Show. The updated crossover is slated to go on sale at year's end.
So far, all that can be seen is a close-up shot of a taillight and a closely cropped overhead shot of the sculpted hood and BMW badge. Design language appears to be adapted from the larger X5 and X6.
The addition of a smaller model, the X1, gives BMW a fairly comprehensive and up-to-date stable of premium CUVs to pit against Audi, Mercedes and the leading Japanese premium brands.
European buyers will be able to select from gasoline or diesel engines, and a hybrid is almost certainly in the pipeline for 2012 or just beyond. An M Sport performance package is also planned. No word yet on U.S. specs or powertrain choices.
Production begins this fall at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Funny that, looks the same as every other BMW. Oh wait, they all do...
