    Just the Facts:
    • 2011 BMW X3 will start at $37,625.
    • That's a $2,100 price cut from the 2010 X3.
    • The uplevel X3 xDrive35i will be priced at $41,925.

WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey — BMW has announced that its all-new 2011 X3 will be priced starting at $37,625, which is a $2,100 reduction from the lowest-priced version of the outgoing X3. The uplevel X3 xDrive35i will be priced at $41,925. Both prices include an $875 destination charge. The second-generation "sports activity vehicle" will be in U.S. dealerships by year's end.

The $37,625 price is for the base X3 xDrive28i. That model comes with BMW's 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque, taking the X3 from zero to 60 mph in an estimated 6.7 seconds.

The $41,925 X3 xDrive35i has a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 that makes 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Top speed with the optional Sport package is electronically limited to 150 mph, says BMW.

Both models have an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.

Among the upgrades for the second-generation X3, there is a three-section split-folding rear seat and standard Bluetooth connectivity, iPod/USB interface and an anti-theft alarm. The X3 xDrive35i also has standard xenon adaptive headlights. Available options include a Dynamic Handling package that bundles Driving Dynamics Control, variable steering and Performance Control — which works with BMW's Dynamic Stability Control to "combine individual wheel braking with light throttle to help counteract the effects of understeer and oversteer," says BMW. Also optional are a rearview camera and a head-up display.

BMW is building the X3 at its Spartanburg, South Carolina, facility.

The BMW mystique doesn't translate well to crossovers. Style, comfort and function trump everything else. That's exactly why companies like Ford, Hyundai, Nissan, GMC, Dodge and Chevrolet will continue to kick BMW to the curbe. Most of these buyers couldn't care less about the Autobahn or Nurburgring. And they aren't the least bit interested in paying extra for a flashy little badge on the hood.

Hopefully the new X3 won't be encumbered owners with run flat/crap tires.

BMW always come out with so much exterior black moldeings and then later have most of them painted when they refresh the model.  They are just cheap.  Well, nobody cares anyway because they are always at the botoom of the JD Power quality survey.

It's a little deceiving that they actually lowered prices - there was only one trim level of the 2010 X3 that was positioned more uplevel than the base 2011 X3 xDrive28i.  So the 35i will cost more and the 28i will cost less, pretty much right where they should be versus the '10.
