Tuner Special: G-Power Hurricane

BRUNSBUETTEL, Germany — Some tuners just can't leave well enough alone. Take G-Power, the BMW specialist. They just weren't happy until they managed to wrench 730 horsepower from the M5.

G-Power calls its newest toy the Hurricane. Small wonder. The twin-supercharged V10, which makes 516 pound-feet of torque, now propels the modified M5 to a top speed of 211 mph, with 0-60 acceleration in less than 4.2 seconds.

The G-Power aero kit includes a front apron with larger air inlets to cool the brakes and engine compartment, plus a larger spoiler to curtail high-speed lift on the front axle. The package also bundles side skirts, rear deck spoiler and rear apron with diffuser.

G-Power fits its 21-inch Silverstone alloy wheels with Dunlop performance rubber — 255/30R21s in front, 295/25R21s in the rear. Also included are enhanced brakes and suspension.

Interior appointments include perforated Napa leather and carbon-fiber accents.

What this means to you: Those darn tuners are so excessive. We don't understand what the problem is with a plain old stock M5. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
