MUNICH, Germany — The 2012 BMW M3 DTM safety car was unveiled on Facebook, but few details were made available.
The safety car heralds BMW's return to DTM racing. Earlier, BMW and Audi announced they will contest the 2012 German Touring Car Championship with new racecars — BMW with the M3 DTM and Audi with the A5 DTM.
The M3 DTM safety car features a black grille, light bar, ventilated hood and Recaro seats. It is not known whether it also gets the "powerful V8" that will deliver around 475 horsepower in the racing version of the M3.
The safety car is noteworthy since the new DTM regulations for 2012 are aimed at improving the safety of the cars.
The DTM — Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft — will cross the Atlantic in 2013, where an American edition of the DTM will be staged in cooperation with NASCAR.
Inside Line says: A first look, but little more since BMW declined to release specifications on the 2012 M3 DTM safety car.

Nice job telling us what DTM stands for... in the last sentence. Now what IS it ? Stock car racing of some sort i assume by context.
And this is the first time i've seen the phrase "safety car" that i'm aware of though wikipedia tells me it's another (European by the looks of it) name for the pace car. Pace car i would have recognized.
And how do DTM regulations having to do the safety of the racecars have anything to do with the pace car let alone make it "noteworthy" ?
Apologies if this message seems overly harsh, but at first i thought it was a car model aimed at police forces that was then also being entered into some stock car championship. Or possibly a concept from one of the auto shows that had improved safety features.
