2007 Frankfurt Auto Show: AC Schnitzer GP3.10

FRANKFURT, Germany — Take one BMW 3 Series coupe, add a massive V10 from the M5/M6, and add gas — liquefied petroleum gas, that is — and you have one of the hotter tuner cars to make a debut at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.

AC Schnitzer's GP3.10 employs an unusual formula. This Aachen-based tuning house begins with its usual emphasis on performance and adds a heavy dollop of efficiency, economy and ecology with its LPG-fueled driveline.

As part of the conversion, Schnitzer has reprogrammed the engine control unit on the 5.0-liter V10 and modified the exhaust system, fitting sport mufflers and catalysts. It has bumped output to 552 horsepower and torque to 398 pound-feet. Acceleration from zero to 60 mph is achieved in less than 4.5 seconds.

Schnitzer adds a racing suspension, enhanced brakes and its Type VI racing wheels.

Painted Mineral Green, the GP3.10 gets an aero body kit that includes a front skirt with coarse-mesh grille insert, air intakes with chrome ribs in the front fenders, rear wheel-arch extensions, a rear skirt with integral diffuser and a rear roof wing.

Schnitzer estimates the value of the GP3.10 at $274,600 and says many of the pieces eventually will find their way into the rest of the tuner's product range.

What this means to you: In Germany, "cooking with gas" takes on a whole new meaning.
