    Just the Facts:
    • Tuningwerk upgrades the extended 7 Series to deliver 720 horsepower and 803 pound-feet of torque.
    • It also shaves 264 pounds off the curb weight with some lightweight goodies.
    • The package is priced at the equivalent of $273,000.

PUCHHEIM, Germany — German tuning house Tuningwerk has trimmed some fat off the extended version of the BMW 7 Series and radically increased acceleration figures with its new NR 7 package for the Bavarian sedan.

The tuner is offering two engine upgrade kits for the big four-door. The first and most powerful package, the RS Edition, increases output to 720 horsepower and torque to 803 pound-feet. The exact modification details are not mentioned, but Tuningwerk says its changes allow for a 3.5-second 0-62-mph sprint and a top speed of 217 mph.

The less-powerful version is called the GT Edition and lays down 530 hp and 545 lb-ft. Tuningwerk says this edition accelerates to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds and tops out at 192 mph.

Lightweight ceramic brake discs all around, plus a new exhaust, 20-inch wheels, carbon-fiber front lip and side skirts all contribute to shave a total of 264 pounds off the car's curb weight, which stands at 4,475 pounds with a half tank of fuel.

The top version of this modified sedan will cost buyers a cool $273,000.

Inside Line says: A go-fast package for a car that is not used to accelerating in the 3-4-second range.

The package is priced at the equivalent of $273,000 --- more expensive ...

There are a couple of things I'm not digging exactly with this thing. The cost is high, and they dont explain how they modify the engine. While I can understand the desire to protect their corporate property, for this kind of money, I want to know what I'm buying.

For reference, the RS version makes the same torque as the Ford Powerstroke diesel used in F350's and F450's. LOL.

At 720 hp, does it really matter?

IDK about the 7 series, but with my E46 M3... changing out the stock to a titanium catback shaved off around 60 lbs.  The stock muffler is VERY huge and steel is heavy.  I can only imagine how large the muffler would be and how many resonators it has in the piping.

I can't comment on ceramic discs though... I've always heard they were much lighter, but never actually picked one up before.

Maybe the other 170lbs was made up from removing the rear seat, radio/nav head unit, A/C, power window motors, and a few other unnecessary things.

For $273k, I'd be more than happy with an Alpina B7 and an Audi R8 V10 coupe.  That should put me right around the same ballpark.

"4,475 pounds with a half tank of fuel"...LMAO!!!

shaving 264lbs by using ceramic brake discs, new exhaust, 20 inch wheels, carbon-fiber lip and side skirts, come on, who are they trying to fool?!? 90lbs at the most from these mods, and I am being very optimistic, LOL!
