NURBURG, Germany — As the 2009 BMW 7 Series draws nearer to its public debut, spy photographers spotted both the lightly camouflaged standard and long-wheelbase models testing this week on the Nürburgring.
Set to go on sale in the U.S. by the spring of 2009, the 2009 7 Series rides on a new, longer platform. An even longer wheelbase version will be available, adding an extra 5.5 inches of length.
Like the current 7 Series, there will be the usual range of V8 and V12 engines, but the real news for this 7 Series, however, will be its alternative-fuel options. A gas-electric powertrain is expected, as well as a diesel variant that will meet U.S. emissions standards.
