Tuner Special: Hamann 6 Series

LAUPHEIM, Germany — The BMW 6 Series got an update for 2008, and Hamann Motorsport immediately got to work with a tuning program for both coupe and convertible versions.

Two aero packages are offered: a basic aero kit and a Race Edition package. The more subtle package includes new front and rear spoilers and more aggressive side skirts. The Race Edition furthers the look with new front fenders and larger "touring car" side skirts.

For a little extra kick in the pants, Hamann offers a new ECU unit for the 630i, 650i and diesel 635d that gives the car an extra 21 horsepower. The electronic speed limiter can be removed, which bumps the top speed to 168 mph in the case of the 650i. A sport exhaust system and adjustable coil-over suspension complete the list of performance mods for the tuned 6 Series.

A variety of custom alloy wheels are also available in sizes up to 21 inches. The inside gets its usual treatment from Hamann with a new three-spoke sport steering wheel and black instrument dials, as well as an aluminum handbrake cover and pedals.

What this means to you: Hamann ups the ante yet again with its variety of sleek 6 Series tuning options. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
