MUNICH, Germany — BMW isn't quite ready to add an ActiveHybrid 5 to its current ActiveHybrid 7 and ActiveHybrid X6 range. But the automaker's Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid pulls the covers back on BMW's next-generation full-hybrid system, which has been installed in a redesigned 5 Series sedan and represents an evolution of the systems used in the ActiveHybrid 7 and ActiveHybrid X6. It will be on display at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show.
The Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid bundles BMW's familiar turbocharged straight-6 gasoline engine with a 40-kw electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The combination, which includes an auto stop-start function in city driving, provides 10 percent lower emissions and fuel consumption.
In the city, the concept runs on pure battery power. BMW's intelligent energy management system blends the two propulsion units at higher speeds.
Other features include regenerative brakes and an auxiliary climate control system that can be activated by remote control before the engine is started.
Inside Line says: It's a good bet you'll see a version of the ActiveHybrid 5 in production within the next year or two. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

I'm with Johnmarko - get a diesel. Or even better, a diesel hybrid that focusses on economy rather than speed.

We need more data, relevant data. Like how many miles u can drive in electric power only, and up to what speeds.
