AACHEN, Germany — Tuner Racing Dynamics, known as RDSport in the United States, has released information on its R35 and R50S tuning packages based on the not-yet-available 2011 BMW 535i and 550i.
The top-of-the-line 550i with the 407 horsepower twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 is set to have output increased to 620 hp, while the 535i's 306-hp 3.0-liter straight-6 with the twin-scroll turbo will now deliver 410 hp and 383 pound-feet of torque. Racing Dynamics shaves about 0.7 second off the stock 0-60-mph time of the 535i with a new estimated time of just 5.3 seconds, while the R50S now maxes out at 211 mph.
Other performance modifications include a special sport exhaust system, locking rear differential with a variable blocking effect from zero to 80 percent, as well as upgraded braking and suspension systems. Stopping power comes from weight-slotted brake discs with four- or six-piston calipers that provide fading delay and reliability even if the brake temperature increases to 1,500 degrees. The revised suspension has two gas struts in the front and two gas-pressurized shocks in the rear, and slams the vehicle about 1.4 inches closer to the ground.
The vehicles will also feature visual changes like a modest body kit and 21-inch one-piece forged alloys, while the interior will be upgraded with a variety of carbon fiber and wood trim. Stay tuned for more details.
Inside Line says: Expect more tuning kits to be released for the 2011 5 Series (F10) as we get closer to its debut this March at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
