    What Is It?

    2005 BMW 5 Series Wagon

    What's Special About It?

After a one-year hiatus, the 5 Series wagon returns to BMW's lineup to play the part of the sensible SUV alternative. Underneath the all-new sheet metal, the wagon gets the same gadgets and innovations first introduced on the 5 Series sedan, such as the Dynamic Drive system, Active Steering and, of course, the now infamous iDrive. Additional features unique to the wagon include a rear load-leveling system and power rear tailgate. It will be offered as a six-cylinder 525i or V8-powered 545i only.

    What's Edmunds' Take?

Without the awkward-looking trunk fussing things up, the wagon may very well be the better-looking of the two 5 Series models. Even so, we can't help but remind ourselves that it will still be outsold by the clumsier X5 by at least a four-to-one margin. — Ed Hellwig
