This is Ed Hellwig, editor of Inside Line and out latest spy video takes a look at the upcoming redesign of the BMW 3 Series. Caught testing on the Nurburgring recently, this latest 3 Series is expected to arrive in early 2012. Although heavily camouflaged, it�s pretty clear that this will be an evolutionary design similar to the larger 5 series sedan. The dimensions of this 3 Series may grow slightly as the 1 Series has taken over as BMWs smallest model. Although all the prototypes spotted testing were four-door sedans, this generation of 3 Series will also include a coupe, a convertible, wagon and even a five-door GT hatchback similar to the 5 Series Gran Turismo. This 3 Series will make even bigger news by switching to a lineup largely dominated by four-cylinder engines. They�ll be turbocharged and direct injected, so the power levels won�t drop off too much form today�s lineup. More importantly they�ll deliver improved mileage over the current straight sixes while reducing emissions. Look for the official unveiling of the next 3 Series at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show.
