WASHINGTON — BMW is recalling 190 2011 BMW 328i xDrive and 335i xDrive cars in the U.S. because the driveshaft can become completely loose during driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The front driveshaft attachment bolts may not have been tightened to specification," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "If the bolts were not tightened to specification, they may become loose. If the bolts loosen, it could lead to a loss of power to the front wheels and ultimately a vehicle breakdown, increasing the risk of a crash."
In other documentation filed with the federal government, BMW said, "The customer may notice a loose driveshaft due to noise or by feeling a vibration coming from the front of the vehicle." It said one vehicle in the U.S. market "may have experienced the condition," but it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the recall.
BMW said it issued a delivery stop on the aforementioned vehicles on September 2.
The recall is expected to begin in October. BMW dealers will remove and replace the front driveshaft attachment bolts on the affected vehicles. Owners can contact BMW at (800) 525-7417.
Inside Line says: If you own a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive or 335i xDrive be aware that a recall is in the works.

What, are you kidding?!? One vehicle has a problem and they do a full recall? Toyota / Lexus lets hundreds get through and maybe a few people die, then recall?? I guess that's what a world class automobile manufacturer does when there's a problem!

"it's called german quality. That's expected from germans."
Now, That's What I Call 'LAME' Excuses Vol. 2!!
In this time and age, plus the price that BMW (heck, let's add Audi + MB in this circle as well) charges,
It is no longer an excuse when you're having issues more often than you should.
No dynamic drive-ability is worth the hassle of wasting time for dealer's visit
(Heck, EVEN WHEN IT'S FREE!!)
Toyota/Lexus may have recalls, but I tell you what: BMW has MORE recalls than them.
Don't compare drive-ability between BMW and Lexus... They're like Heaven and Earth.
IMHO,
With better reliability, Acura with their superb SH-AWD, as well as Infiniti G, already beat the cr@p out of BMW's 'Ultimate Driving Machine' experience.

I want to love BMW the way the enthusiasts do, but they just keep having new problems and raising the price. I don't think it's ever going to happen.

Infiniti blows BMW away in terms of quality. When was the last time you heard about an Infiniti recall of any news worthy magnitude?

it's called german quality. That's expected from germans. If you want boring appliance that's "reliable" go buy a lexus. Even Lexus/toyota has millions of recalls, what's your point? Go troll somewhere else.
BTW, xDrive is pretty decent.

Least shocking thing to read - poor BMW build quality.
FWIW, xDrive is garbage anyway.
