First announced at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, the 335d is a diesel variant of BMW's popular 3 Series, boasting a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6. The diesel power plant generates an impressive 265 horsepower, but in typical diesel fashion, the torque figure is the real story: 425 pound-feet at only 1,750 rpm.
As we can see from the photos, the 335d will sport mildly revised bodywork to go along with its oil-burning engine. The body refresh will occur across the entire 3 Series line, with all 2009 3 Series models expected to receive revised front and rear fascias and modestly upgraded interiors.
What this means to you: Diesel power is no longer limited to big hulking SUVs and pickup trucks thanks to BMW. — Doug Lloyd, Senior Copy Editor
