2008 Geneva Auto Show Preview: BMW Performance Kits for 1 and 3 Series

GENEVA — BMW will show a new series of aftermarket products, BMW Performance, for the 1 Series and 3 Series at the upcoming 2008 Geneva Auto Show. The new lineup includes "retrofittable options for the suspension, drivetrain, aerodynamics and cockpit" of the cars. A BMW 123d Coupe will be the main showplace for the product line at Geneva.

BMW says the products, available as aftermarket kits from BMW dealers and retailers, will be available individually and will be covered under warranty. The Performance Aerodynamics Kit for the 1 Series includes a front airdam, "highly expressive, fully integrated" black high-gloss grille surround and contoured side sills. Carbon-fiber mirror caps, rear spoiler and diffuser are part of the kit for 1 Series and some 3 Series models.

BMW Performance is also selling sport brakes, suspension, a carbon fiber spring-strut reinforcement bar and a set of 18- or 19-inch double-spoke light alloy wheels.

The BMW Performance sport brakes are extra-large vented discs perforated on the front wheels. Six-piston fixed-caliper brakes on the front bear the BMW Performance name and are painted BMW Performance Yellow. Chassis and suspension upgrades include Performance Yellow coil springs and a lowered chassis.

BMW Performance also modifies the air intake system to improve airflow and includes chrome-plated stainless steel dual tailpipes and an exhaust silencer to "highlight the superior power and performance of the engines through the right sound."

No aftermarket kit would be complete without an interior transformation, so BMW Performance sport seats in black Alcantara, a chrome-and-black-Alcantara gearshift knob and a matching multifunction sport steering wheel are offered.

The new products will roll out this spring, BMW says.
