2004 BMW 330i Performance Package
What's Special About It?
It's no M3 sedan, but this new performance variant of the standard 330i does offer a nice package for those in need of a little extra juice in their four-door. The engine benefits from a reprogrammed computer and revised camshafts that add 10 horsepower for a total of 235. A six-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter handles the gear changes while a shorter final drive ratio makes for quicker acceleration off the line. BMW claims a 0-to-60-mph time of half a second shorter than the standard 330i. The suspension is cranked up a notch higher than the standard sport suspension while staggered 18-inch wheels and tires provide the connection to the road.
Cosmetic modifications include an exterior body kit, black headlight trim and a new exhaust. The interior benefits from a steering wheel and sport seats finished in Alcantara suede as well as an anthracite headliner and black aluminum trim.
Production is scheduled to begin in March.
Why Should You Care?
If the standard 330i just doesn't cut it but you don't have the money for an M3 (or can't spare the room), this new performance package may be just enough to get you by. You're not likely to notice the meager power boost, but the short-throw six-speed, tweaked suspension and meaty tires should make for exceptional handling. — Ed Hellwig
