MUNICH, Germany — BMW has released another brief teaser video on its upcoming 1 Series M Coupe (http://www.insideline.com/bmw/1-series/bmw-1-series-m-coupe-due-in-2011.html).
The 1 Series M Coupe prototype is still wearing heavy camouflage in the video, posted on YouTube by the automaker's M performance group.
The 47-second video shows off the left front corner of the car, including the headlamp, a wheel and a portion of the front airdam, bumper and fender, as well as quad exhaust pipes in the rear.
BMW previously has said the 1 Series M Coupe will get a 335-horsepower version of the turbocharged N55 inline-6, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Top speed will be electronically limited to 155 mph, with 0-60-mph acceleration in around 4.5 seconds.
Stay tuned for more details, as they are officially "leaked" at m-power.com.

I heard the possibility of a 2.0 to 2.2 Turbo 4cylinder for the "1"......Can anyone confirm? I also heard rumors of a 2 door Hatch as well ( Europe initially but maybe USA?)

Surely this M1 will use the N54 and not the N55 engine. If not, write it off already.

Supra4, your numbers are wrong. Check out the BMW web site for a comparison of the 135i Coupe and the 335i Coupe.
Although not substantially, the 135 is smaller (171.7" long vs. 181.9") and lighter (3373 lbs vs. 3560 lbs).
My biggest disappointed with the 1-series (as a former E36 M3 owner) is that I was expecting it to go back to being smaller AND lighter like the E36. Boy I miss tossing that thing around. But a 190 lb weight reduction is not much over the 3-series. So yeah, what's the point?

I'd say for North America, the 1 series is just pointless...
(So far, I only see a few on the road, and ALL of them are driven by a girl... so, there! It's a girly car!)
This M1 is just even more pointless.... and WAY overpriced!

355 instead of 335 would be superb... :)
And then the next M3 could produce 450, and maintain the balance between it and the baby-M.

Very excited to have this in my garage...So far so good with the hype machine BMW! Small package big motor fits in with my current desires.
I have to say that the new 2011 3 series coupe is a bit of a let down from my previous 2002 3 series coupe, for whatever reason I can not get too comfortable in it!??? The seats drive me crazy trying to adjust the comfort level. I just dont remember it being this difficult in my old one.
My hope is still that this 1M coupe will be all that we hope it will be. I would wait for the newest M3 to come out to finalize a purchase on this car though. Its not like $50K is cheap, for that money a new full size GT500 can be taken!
Waiting and hoping....

The 1 series is not much smaller than the 3 series and according to Edmunds weighs more (coupe vs. coupe). The 1 is built on the 3 frame and shares many components with the 3.
1 series coupe: (http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/1series/2008/testdrive.html)
Weight: 3,373 lbs
Height: 55.4"
length: 172.2"
Width: 68.8"
Wheelbase: 104.7"
3 series coupe: (http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/3series/2008/testdrive.html)
Weight: 3,340 lbs
Height: 55.9"
Length: 178.2"
Width: 71.5"
Wheelbase: 108.7"

I think the trick to all this is to remember this is all speculation as of right now, no one really knows how much power this thing will make when it finally reaches production, i do agree that they can't make it too powerful bc it would detract from m3 sales, but then again who knows how much power the next gen m3 will make w/ it's 6 turbo. Either way I am excited about the launch, and can't wait to get my hands on one to ring it out a little bit.

@wcypher - because the 3 is a massive car in comparison.

To me the 1 series has always seemed overpriced. Why not spend the extra few grand and get a 3?
