AACHEN, Germany — AC Schnitzer has been tinkering with BMW's 1 Series convertible, and the results are quite satisfying.

The ACS1 Cabrio comes in both gasoline and diesel variants. The 135i gets a bump from 302 to 355 horsepower, while the 123d jumps from 201 to 237 hp. To track the improvement in performance, Schnitzer has fitted a new 320-km/h (199 mph) speedo.

Additional hardware modifications include a stainless steel exhaust system with chrome tailpipes, upgraded springs, an optional height-adjustable sport suspension and a variety of alloy wheels in sizes up to 19 inches.

The aero body kit bundles a new front skirt, a grille insert and a rear skirt with diffuser.

Inside, the cockpit is trimmed in carbon fiber with silver accents. The pedals, gearshift knob and iDrive controller knob are all finished in aluminum.

What this means to you: This 1 Series soft top looks as fast as it drives. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
