SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Chassis 3, the oldest-surviving production Bentley, and a 1931 Brough Superior motorcycle once owned by the actor Steve McQueen and custom-car artist Von Dutch will cross the auction block at Gooding & Company's Pebble Beach event on August 20-21.
The 1921 Bentley 3 Litre was the first customer car to leave the Bentley factory, according to the auction house. Its estimate is available upon request.
Gooding and Company describes the vintage car as "one of the most important Bentleys in existence." It features brass brightwork and an original aluminum body with a fully disappearing top.
McQueen's Brough Superior is a high-performance British motorcycle marque made famous by World War I British Army officer T.E. Lawrence, also known as Lawrence of Arabia. McQueen shared the Superior SS80 with his friend Von Dutch. The motorcycle will be presented with a letter of authenticity written by McQueen's son Chad McQueen.
The 1931 Brough Superior SS80 is expected to fetch upwards of $200,000.
Inside Line says: The Bentley and McQueen's motorcycle promise to be some of the highlights of Gooding & Company's Pebble Beach event.
