The Continental GT can take a fair share of the credit, as it's the high-performance luxury grand touring car that set Bentley down its own new path away from its former Rolls-Royce oppressors. Of course, that path was sketched out by current owner Volkswagen.
For 2009, Bentley improves its growing list of models and adds its most powerful model ever, the 550-horsepower Brooklands coupe, to its lineup.
2009 Bentley Arnage: New options include carbon-ceramic brakes first developed for the Brooklands coupe, multiple 20-inch wheel designs and an ear-splitting 1,100-watt "Naim for Bentley" audio system with 13 speakers. New dark stained Vavona wood veneer trim has also been added to the interior.
2009 Bentley Azure: The Azure is a convertible version of the Arnage, so it receives the same option upgrades for 2009, including the carbon-ceramic brakes, multiple 20-inch wheel designs and an ear-splitting 1,100-watt "Naim for Bentley" audio system, only this time with just 11 speakers. The new dark stained Vavona wood veneer interior trim also makes it into the Azure.
2009 Bentley Brooklands: The most powerful Bentley ever produced (its 6.8-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 530 hp and 774 pound-feet of torque) is an all-new model for 2009. The $340,990 Brooklands (only 550 will be made) is a four-seat premium luxury coupe and an evolution of the Arnage sedan and Azure convertible.
It comes in only one trim, but of course, it's loaded. Standard stuff includes 20-inch wheels, xenon headlights, a navigation system with a back-up camera, Bluetooth, massaging front seats and power-reclining rear seats.
In the old-world tradition, customers can also custom order the interior of their Brooklands down to the color of the seatbelts. Buyers can turn up the decadence a notch with the Mulliner option, which includes your choice of various exotic leathers and wood and carbon-fiber or aluminum veneers. Custom exterior paint finishes and badging can also be had. Presumably, the only limitations here are your imagination and your credit limit.
2009 Bentley Continental Flying Spur: An all-new model for 2009, the Continental Flying Spur Speed should suit Bentley clientele well. It's essentially the four-door version of the Continental GT Speed, a more powerful (600 hp) and more aggressively tuned version of the standard Continental GT coupe. It's the fastest four-door sedan in Bentley's history, and a set of 20-inch wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes are available as an option. They shave 22 pounds of unsprung weight from each corner and 9 feet off the stopping distance, according to Bentley.
In addition to the performance-oriented upgrades, the Flying Spur Speed also features a round of midcycle updates added to all Flying Spurs for 2009, including a new optional Naim audio system. Its 1,100-watt amplifier is the most powerful ever produced for an automobile, and 15 speakers distribute its considerable output. Its price tag is a hefty $6,900.
Also new are subtle styling revisions front and rear, along with a new 19-inch wheel design. And all Flying Spurs get a revised suspension and a retuned exhaust, as well as insulated glass to reduce interior noise. There are also new options like a two-tone paint treatment and a dedicated iPod connection.
2009 Bentley Continental GT: Just like all the other 2009 Bentleys, the 2009 Bentley Continental GT gets an ear-splitting 1,100-watt Naim audio system added to its options list. Also new for 2009 are new electronic features, including park-distance control, radar-based adaptive cruise control and an iPod interface.
The 600-hp 2009 Bentley Continental GT Speed also gets these upgrades but remains unchanged mechanically.
2009 Bentley Continental GTC: Along with all the other 2009 Bentleys, the 2009 Bentley Continental GTC gets the ear-splitting 1,100-watt Naim audio system added to its options list. The convertible version of the Continental GT coupe also gets a short list of new electronic features, including park-distance control, radar-based adaptive cruise control and an iPod interface.
