2004 Bentley Arnage R Mulliner and Arnage T-24 Mulliner
What's Special About It?
Bentley unveiled two special editions of the Arnage; the ultraluxurious R Mulliner and the sporty T-24 Mulliner.
The R Mulliner is essentially an Arnage spiffed up with a chromed-out radiator shell, side mirrors and wheels (19-inchers). Even the gas cap, though hidden, is chrome and is bedecked with Bentley's flying wings emblem. The cabin features even more wood trim than a standard Arnage (who thought this was possible?), as even the cruise control and the sides of the front seats are surrounded by the finest burled timber. The running gear is stock Arnage R, meaning 400 horsepower and 616-pound-feet of torque, enough muscle to catapult the three-ton luxury liner to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
Only 26 of the R are going to be produced, and they will list for $212,990.
The T-24 Mulliner is a celebratory edition of the Arnage, built to commemorate Bentley's win in the 24 hours of LeMans. The obligatory gingerbread includes gorgeous 19-inch alloys, body-color accents (such as around the headlights and turn signals) and vents on the front fenders. Carbon-fiber accents, as well as drilled alloy pedals and black lacquer wood trim give the interior a more sporting flare than your run-of-the-mill Arnage. Backing up this personality is an even more potent version of the 6.8-liter turbocharged V8. Output is a staggering 450 hp and 645 lb-ft, meaning the sprint to 60 takes just 5.5 seconds and top speed is listed as 168 mph. If you want to set yourself apart from the rap stars and pro athletes, be advised that Bentley is going to make only 24 T-24s and the list price is nearly a quarter-mil ($246,500).
What's Edmunds' Take?
If we had the enviable task of choosing between these two special editions, we'd have to go with the more substantial T-24 as the R Mulliner amounts to little more than an optioned-out Arnage. Not that that would be too hard to take. John DiPietro
