2003 New York Auto Show

Overview

2003 New York Auto Show

Much like many of the Broadway shows for which the Big Apple is famous, the New York International Auto Show is enjoying an ever increasing rise in its popularity and prestige. In addition to showcasing many new models that have already been introduced in Geneva or Detroit, no less than 20 world debuts will occur this year at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, indicating just how seriously the world's carmakers are taking New York.

Concept cars tend to be the favorite eye candy of many showgoers. And nearly as exciting as the concepts themselves is the fact that more and more of these "dream cars" are becoming realities - recent examples include the Mini Cooper and the soon-to-be-released Dodge Ram SRT-10 - a Viper-engined pickup truck that will blow the doors off most any legendary muscle car you can name. Among the concepts at New York are the Lexus HPX, a high-performance crossover SUV in the vein of Infiniti's recently introduced FX45.

Production models making their debut include the rag-top version of Nissan's exciting 350Z sports car; the new V8, rear-wheel-drive Chrysler LX; the redesigned Toyota Prius; and the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, a midsize five-door hatchback, just to name a few.

So grab a cup of "kawfee," kick back and enjoy our complete coverage of this year's show.
