SHANGHAI, China — Audi unveiled its new "affordable" TT GT4 racing car here, as it revealed plans to offer the car to customers beginning in 2012, with prices starting at around $157,000.
Developed in cooperation with Audi's quattro GmbH performance group, the TT GT4 provides a new platform for Audi's "modular customer sport program," the company said.
Audi said the GT4 edition of the TT will feature a 335-horsepower gasoline direct-injection engine coupled with an S tronic transmission and differential lock.
The car rides on 18-inch wheels and tires and gets a modified production suspension with adjustable shocks.
The racing body borrows its front and rear aprons and rear wing stem from the production TT RS. The hood, doors and deck lid are made of carbon fiber, and the windows are made of plastic.
Inside Line says: Curiously, Audi believes there is a market for the racing version of the TT not just in Europe, but also in China. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

the front looks quite busy in relation to the rest of the car. Like they got lazy after all the new vents.

Those few hundreths of a second of extra weight add up over the course of a race. They do look kind of cheap as you said.

I hate it when they take street cars and strip them. Interiors just look hideous. Why not throw a little plastic in there to make it look even somewhat like a car. I know its all about weight but what could a couple pounds of plastic do.
