Usually we laugh when corporate types and brown nosers toss around words like synergy – but when the result is an Audi R8 with a Lamborghini engine the snickering stops real quick.  In the R8 5.2, the normally aspirated, direct-injection V10 engine makes 518 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. It can be matched to a six-speed manual gearbox or an R tronic sequential automatic.  Audi says the car can zip from zero to 60 mph in less than 3.9 seconds but still return up to 17 mpg in with the R-tronic  To distinguish the V10 variant from the standard eight-cylinder R8, Audi has made subtle visual changes. In addition to all-LED headlamps, the R8 5.2 gets wider side sills, matte aluminum exhaust grilles, a larger rear window, a chrome single-frame grille and front air inlets painted in high-gloss black.  There’s also unique 10 spoke wheels and high performance ceramic brakes.  Compared to the new and very similar R8 LMS racing car, the R8 5.2 FSI looks like a bargain. Look for a price tag of about $180,000 when it goes on sale in Germany this spring.
