Sorry, Tesla: Audi Says No Electric R8 for Frankfurt

    0 Ratings
DETROIT — Sports fans hoping for a showdown between the Tesla Roadster and a rumored electric version of the Audi R8 will have to wait a little longer for that particular face-off to materialize.

An Audi representative dismissed widespread speculation that started in the European press that the company would display a battery-powered R8 at the upcoming Frankfurt show.

Reports in the German publication Auto Motor und Sport and the French publication L'Automobile both claimed the electric Audi R8 would be unveiled in September at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Pressed for comment on the European media reports, an Audi spokesman, who asked to remain anonymous, said the stories were "not true."

Audi is, however, planning to release the long-awaited R8 Spyder at the show, but featuring gasoline engines only.
