Tuner Special: Edo Audi R8

AHLEN, Germany — Supercar tuner Edo Competition has gotten its hands on the new Audi R8, and the results are surprisingly subtle. The outside looks more or less the same, but with series of small upgrades, the performance of the already formidable machine has been increased dramatically.

Edo Competition has been souping up Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porches for years. This latest project, the R8, may be the company's most impressive offering to date. The output has been cranked up from 420 to 442 horsepower, thanks in part to a high-flow stainless-steel exhaust system, which is offered in two different sound levels.

Additional changes include an aerodynamics kit complete with a carbon-fiber lip spoiler, rear bumper inserts and a rear diffuser. In addition, a choice of 19- or 20-inch light alloy wheels completes the makeover. It's all very understated and what we've come to expect from Edo: performance without unnecessary flash.

The R8 is already fast as hell, boasting a 4.7-second 0-60-mph time, but the Edo R8 manages to do it in 4.5 with just a few minor tweaks. Not bad for an exhaust system and a lip spoiler.
