Iron Men (and Woman): Audi Stars in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD — It was a refreshing change from the usual parade of Priuses stampeding the "green carpet" on Oscar night. For the April 30 premiere of Jon Favreau's Iron Man at Grauman's Chinese Theater, sponsor Audi provided a clutch of high-performance hardware for the director and his stars.

Favreau, Robert Downey Jr., Terence Howard and Jeff Bridges piloted new R8s to the opener. Jack Black and Vince Vaughn selected Q7s, while Gwyneth Paltrow arrived in an A8L sedan.

Downey plays the title character, billionaire Tony Stark, whose high-tech armor transforms him into Iron Man. His ride of choice: The Audi R8, which in real life has a two-year customer waiting list, according to the automaker.

Paltrow, who plays love interest Virginia "Pepper" Potts, drives an Audi S5 in the flick.

A microsite, at www.audiusa.com/ironman, supports the movie with cast interviews, backgrounders, commercials and behind-the-scenes content.

What this means to you: You don't have to be a comic-book hero to drive an R8 — you just have to be really patient. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
