SONOMA, California — Audi of America on Tuesday unleashed a slate of driving programs, including two events for the 420-horsepower R8, the fastest Audi ever produced.

The one-day R8 program costs $1,895, while the two-day program is priced at $3,495. The events take place at the Audi Forum Sonoma, located trackside at Turn 1 of Infineon Raceway here. Professional drivers serve as instructors.

The 2008 R8 carries a price tag of $109,000. The R8 is equipped with a 4.2-liter FSI engine and sprints from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. It has a top speed of 187 mph.

Audi also will sponsor track programs for the RS4. The one-day program costs $1,295, while the two-day program is priced at $2,495. An S model half-day introductory program, including time in the 450-hp S8, is priced at $695. Audi says the S model program "culminates in a handling course competition where drivers can compete in the team category and for individual best time."

What this means to you: One of the few places you can put the heart-pumping R8 through its paces without fear of seeing a flashing light in your rearview mirror. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
