2008 Geneva Auto Show: Audi Q7 Coastline

INGOLSTADT, Germany — Immediately after impressing the world with the 500-horsepower Q7 V12TDI, Audi is introducing a concept version of the SUV. It's meant to be the company's new flagship — emphasis on the ship.

That's right, the Q7 Coastline is meant to resemble a yacht. Audi is not just hanging buoys from the trailer hitch, but has gone all out. Everything is alabaster white (the de rigueur color for cruise ships) and it pervades all aspects of the interior including the carpet, embroidered floor mats, pillar trim, roof lining, the front of the cockpit, the door trim and even the switches on the dashboard. You'll also find it on the white, plush velvet and leather seats.

What really seals the yachtlike feeling on the Q7: the wood. The armrests, gearshift knob, inside of the door and the floor of the cargo area are all fashioned from walnut veneer and dark smoked oak.

Design issues aside, the Q7 Coastline is still packing the same V12 as the TDI, so it's not all just good looks and the ability to sail to the Bahamas.
