INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi will load up its new Q7 SUV, which makes its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with an impressive list of high-tech features.

The Audi SUV will have at its command quattro four-wheel drive, optional adaptive air suspension, and an advanced parking system with a rearview camera. The Q7 will start at 48,900 Euros or about $60,000.

The up-to-seven passenger Audi will be offered with two engine choices: a new 4.2-liter V8 that makes 350 hp or a 3.0 TDI six-cylinder that makes 233 hp. Both engines are mated to a six-speed Tiptronic transmission.

Audi said the chassis of the Q7 has several aluminum components, including double wishbones of the front and rear independent suspension. Standard features include 18-inch light alloy wheels. All versions of the Q7 can also be fitted with the optional 19-inch or 20-inch wheels.

In a statement, Audi said it is offering several "driver assistance" systems on the Q7, including a radar-based lane-departure warning system, an advanced parking system with optical and acoustic guidance, and a stability program with new functions, including hill-descent assist.

The Q7 goes on sale September 12 in Europe. It will reach the U.S. in 2006.

What this means to you: Audi may be just about the last one to the SUV party, but it shows up with a performance model that undoubtedly will appeal to upscale buyers.
