    Just the Facts:
    • Audi's new compact crossover will break cover at Shanghai, where its predecessor, the Cross Coupe Quattro concept, was unveiled four years ago.
    • The Q3 will share its underpinnings and powertrains with the VW Tiguan.
    • The new Q3 will be built at VW's Seat plant in Martorell, Spain.

INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi's all-new Q3 compact crossover, which is expected to arrive at U.S. dealers as a 2012 model, will be officially unveiled in two weeks at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show. In the meantime, Audi has released a series of teaser sketches which invite comparison with the company's earlier Cross Coupe Quattro concept that was introduced at the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show.

The Q3 is expected to share its underpinnings with the Volkswagen Tiguan. Audi has said the Q3 will be produced at VW's Seat plant in Martorell, Spain.

Like the Tiguan, the Q3 will be available with a variety of gasoline and turbodiesel engines and a choice of transmissions.

The Q3's exterior styling borrows family cues from the larger Q5 and Q7.

Inside Line says: Since the Q3 will be positioned above the Tiguan on the price ladder, look for a sticker in the vicinity of $30,000. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Uh Huh, another Audi that will probably not be imported to the USA.  If it's mechanically identical to the VW Tiguan, why bother anyway?
Then again, Q5's remain in very short supply, so perhaps having the Q3 would give Audi dealers something else to market?

Don't all recent Audi models look bit similar (except for the R8/TT)? IIRC Audi said wouldn't sell the Q3 in the US (source automotive news). But maybe that was rather the Q1.

jscion is right, it looks pretty much exactly like a Q5, not bigger, not smaller...I thought Audi knew better than to have the same vehicle as two separate models...

Not that I liked the Q5 either, mind you.
