2008 Beijing Auto Show Preview: Audi Expects To Double China Sales by 2015

SHANGHAI, China — Audi expects to double its annual sales in China to 200,000 units by 2015 and said the country will be its biggest overseas market outside Germany. The company will launch the A5 at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show next month.

Audi's projection followed a 25 percent jump in China sales last year to a record 100,888 units. Growth was fueled by demand for the A4 and A6 sedans made with Audi's Chinese joint-venture partner, FAW. In comparison, BMW last year sold 51,588 cars in China.

Audi will introduce a Chinese edition of the A5 at the Beijing auto show in April. It will also launch a new China-made A4 sedan as early as 2009, executives said.

What this means to you: China's luxury-car market is growing at an average annual clip of 30 percent, and Audi takes more than half of it. — Vivian Jin, Correspondent
