INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi is basking in its midsize class success, as it watched its 10 millionth midsize car roll off the production assembly line in early October.

A Misano Red Audi S4 with a black and alabaster-white interior and a 333-horsepower V6 engine was the lucky car to represent four generations of both the Audi 80 and Audi A4 since 1972.

Audi has long considered its midsize vehicles the heart of the brand, said Frank Dreves, board member for production at Audi AG, in a statement. "Thanks to its sophisticated technology and excellent quality, the Audi A4 is our best-seller — winning over customers in every market since it was launched," he said.

Audi has been producing the A4 model family at its Ingolstadt site since 1994 and, since 2007, in Neckarsulm, Germany, as well.

The face-lifted 2013 A4 sedan and wagon arrive in the U.S. next year, along with the S4 and A4 Allroad.

The updated A4 and S4 are being unveiled this week in Germany.

Inside Line says: Audi understands that longevity in this competitive arena is something to celebrate.

    Great job Audi!

As an owner of 3 Audi's in the last 9 years I can say that reliability was never a issue with any of my cars (2002 A4 1.8TQ, 2006 A4 2.0TQ, and most recently a 2008 A6 3.2Q).  It's the luck of the draw if you have any problems with any manufacturer.  The car companies with great reliability ratings are all good and nice, but if you're one of the 5 out of 100 persons who gets the vehicle with problems, then your personal outlook on the car brand changes for the worse.

    Sigh...

If only Audi can 'bump up' its reliability rating as well...

I wonder how this compares to other lines, Camry/Accord come to mind.
