Even the A3, its least expensive model, has been tweaked for 2009, and there's a new hot-rod version of the TT coupe and roadster called the TTS. Oh, wait; we forgot to mention the new diesel engine in the 2009 Audi Q7 SUV.
The Audi crew sure has been busy. Take a break, people.
2009 Audi A3: For 2009 the Audi A3 adds Quattro all-wheel drive to the volume 2.0T setup combined with S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The Audi Magnetic Ride system is also now optional.
There are also some standard equipment changes on the 2009 Audi A3. Hill-hold assist is now standard on the 2.0T manual. Sirius Satellite Radio, leather seating surfaces, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an aux audio input are now standard on all A3s. And Flexmetallic interior trim replaces matte interior trim on 2.0T models.
On the 3.2 model, Bluetooth, bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, and the Open Sky sunroof are now standard, while the Symphony package, sport suspension and sport seats are no longer standard.
And finally, the ashtray/smoker option package has been deleted on all models and replaced with a storage tray, of course forcing all smokers to flick their cigs out the window.
2009 Audi A4: Like the Six Million Dollar Man, the all-new 2009 Audi A4 is bigger, stronger and faster. Audi has completely redesigned its best seller, and the results are impressive.
Two body styles — sedan and wagon (Avant) — are offered. The sedan can be equipped with either the all-new 211-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or the 265-hp 3.2-liter V6. The 2.0-liter engine can be configured with front-wheel drive or with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. It can also be paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 3.2, however, is offered exclusively in the sedan and only with Quattro and a six-speed Tiptronic transmission. The A4 Avant will be equipped with the 2.0 TFSI engine and the Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
Other new items include Audi's new Drive-Select Dynamic Driving System (which is essentially adjustable suspension and steering) and a three-zone climate control system. An iPod interface and Bluetooth are also part of the A4's new package.
Sadly the V8-powered S4 and RS4 models have been discontinued for 2009.
2009 Audi A5: New options include Audi Drive Select, which is adaptive suspension and steering, adaptive cruise control and a navigation package with voice command. Shift paddles for the six-speed automatic are only available with the S line trim.
2009 Audi S5: No changes.
2009 Audi A6: It's subtle, but the 2009 Audi A6 gets a light face-lift to make it look more like the A5 coupe. Look closely and you'll notice new headlamps with optional LED daytime running lights, new foglamps, a front bumper and a tweaked front grille design. In back Audi added new LED taillights with a special nighttime optical view and a new rear bumper.
Inside, there are aluminum accents, softer armrests on the doors and higher-resolution graphics on the gauges.
Suspension upgrades include new large-diameter front-axle shock absorbers and new springs. The air suspension is still unavailable in the U.S. Instead we get a new optional side-assist blind-spot detection system.
Under the hood, however, is an impressive all-new engine, a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that makes 300 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque. It's the same engine Audi will use in the 2010 Audi S4 and it'll be available in the A6 only with Tiptronic and Quattro. The 3.2-liter V6 and 4.2-liter V8 remain unchanged.
2009 Audi S6: No changes.
2009 Audi A8: The standard equipment list on Audi's largest sedan grows to include a power trunk opener, power door closers, a rearview camera and Audi's Advanced Key function.
2009 Audi S8: Like the less powerful A8, the V10-powered S8 gets a power trunk opener, power door closers, a rearview camera and Audi's Advanced Key function added to its standard equipment list.
2009 Audi R8: A six-disc CD changer, Bluetooth and HomeLink garage-door opener are added to the supercar's standard equipment list. A new set of glossy 19-inch wheels is available.
2009 Audi TT: A new hot-rod model has been added to the TT lineup for 2009. The 2009 Audi TTS is available as a coupe or a convertible. Powered exclusively by Audi's 265-hp turbocharged 2.0T engine, Audi says the TTS will hit 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph.
Audi's S tronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive system are standard, as are 18-inch wheels and tires and the company's magnetic ride suspension, which has two settings: Standard for a more comfortable ride and Sport (which lowers the body by 10 millimeters) for action.
A more aggressive look is courtesy of newly designed bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights and larger air scoops in the front bumper. Inside, sport seats covered in leather and Alcantara suede are standard, along with a gray instrument panel. Silk napa leather upholstery in four different color combinations is available as an option.
2009 Audi Q5: With the all-new 2009 Audi Q5, Audi enters the small premium crossover segment that already includes the BMW X3 and Infiniti EX35.
In the U.S., the Audi Q5 will be powered solely by the company's familiar 3.2-liter V6 that makes 270 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. Eighteen-inch wheels, a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive are also standard. Audi says the combination is good for an estimated 0-60-mph run of 6.8 seconds.
Other standard and optional highlights include real-time traffic information, a power tailgate, LED taillamps, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, LED daytime running lights, a rearview camera, a heated and cooled cupholder and a Bang & Olufsen 14-speaker sound system.
2009 Audi Q7: A 3.0-liter TDI diesel engine joins the gasoline V6 and V8 in the Q7's lineup for 2009. The diesel is 50-state legal, puts out 221 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque and gets the big Q7 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds (according to Audi).
Audi also says the TDI-powered 2009 Q7 will get around 25 mpg on the highway and will travel more than 600 miles on a tank of fuel.
