    What Is It?

    2006 Audi A4

    What's Special About It?

The Audi A4 receives new sheet metal along with the Audi family grille that matches the A6 and A8's front styling, and new swiveling headlamps have been added for better visibility in the turns. Under the new look lies an upgraded suspension sure to please driving enthusiasts as it shares components with the sporty S4 system, as well as the newly redesigned A6.

Powering the A4 is a choice of two new direct-injection engines. Audi is replacing the current 1.8T engine with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that claims 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 30 hp over the 1.8T. This 2.0T FSI boasts a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds. The second engine option, replacing the 3.0-liter V6, is a 3.2-liter V6 with FSI which makes 255 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. All A4s bound for the United States benefit from Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system and a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Inside the traditional A4 cabin, changes are limited to a new steering wheel and new navigation system.

    What's Edmunds Take?

We've long considered the A4 a personal favorite, and with the increase in power and upgraded suspension, it's easy to believe the German automaker has made a good thing even better. Audi claims pricing won't increase more than half a percent over the current A4, which ranges from $25,800 to a starting point of $31,500 for the V6. Better car without a substantially bigger price tag — that's our kind of upgrade. — Kelly Toepke
