GENEVA — Audi has released three teaser sketches of the A3 concept, which previews the 2012 Audi A3 sedan, ahead of the car's world debut at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show.

The four-seater notchback concept is defined by a low roof and C-pillar, as well as a single-frame grille and LED headlights. The concept illustrates the German automaker's strategy of filling in as many niches in the market as possible.

"The four-seater notchback sedan offers a glimpse of the future expansion of the A3 family," said Audi AG in a statement.

Audi offered no glimpse of the A3's interior design at this point.

It said the A3 concept gets a 408-horsepower five-cylinder turbocharged engine linked to a seven-speed S tronic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. Performance numbers have not been released for the concept.

The A3 concept measures 175 inches long and 55 inches tall.

"The problem is that their base engines are too weak and mid level engines don't exist. It's either get the 2.0T or the RS.........."

really ? How about Audi S4 with its V6 3.0 TFSI 0-60 mph in 4.9 sec. There's your mid level engine, a rival to 335i.

"The only Audi's i would consider are the A5 and up.  The smaller ones could be just rebadged VW's for all i care."

....follwing that nonsense logic are you saying that A4 is smaller than A5 ?

This is one beautiful Audi as usual. The problem is that their base engines are too weak and mid level engines don't exist. It's either get the 2.0T or the RS..........

Why did they make it a a sedan? This A3 has the same length and height as my old 2004 Audi A4. Its a few inches shorter than the current A4. What is the point of this car? The only thing good about this car is the engine.....

408 bhp sounds more like the RS3 designation to me, with the I5 right out of the Quattro concept.

Oh, and the point (I think) of an A3 sedan is that Americans don't typically buy hatchbacks and wagons.  A notchback design might provide most of the versatility of the hatch, while making it more suitable to the American palette.

if we read between the lines here we can probably forget the large rims  and probably ditch the 408hp engine as the likely engines will be A4 carryovers............but otherwise I can see it if Audi brings both the sedan and hatch versions and prices it under an A4 ( and above the forthcoming A1). This version is just for show or it would at least be a "range topper".

and yes, I will be staying awake all night waiting and worrying to see if I get respect for approving of this car.

"And no,  I would never consider a lexus(toyota)/infinity(nissan)/acura(honda).
To me those are posure-mobiles for the gold chain/party store owner crowd."

Know one is asking you to consider something from Japan, so no need for the hatred. I completely disagree with you on the "poser" argument. Honda, Toyota, Nissan for posers - really? The last time I checked the people who opted for those brands either can't afford an Audi, or like me, aren't interested in showing off - you know - being a poser.
