REIFNITZ, Austria — The 496-horsepower Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro will be introduced this week at the Wortherseetour 2011, hinting at what the new all-wheel-drive Audi S1 Quattro may look like.
The one-off showcar gets a highly modified version of Audi's turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission. The transmission and all-wheel-drive system are borrowed from the Audi TT RS. Audi says the A1 Clubsport Quattro — which weighs in at 3,064 pounds — sprints from zero to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph.
Rally-inspired styling includes a wide-body kit that stretches the showcar by 2.36 inches. The exhaust pipe comes out of the left side of the A1 Clubsport Quattro, a cue borrowed from the Audi A4 DTM car. Other design cues include a roof spoiler, menacing-looking headlights with a red "wing" and 19-inch alloy wheels with a turbine design.
The A1 Clubsport Quattro gets Glacier White matte paint and a high-gloss black roof made of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer.
Audi says because the showcar is designed as a "road vehicle for the racetrack," it does not come with a rear seat. Instead, it gets a large crossbar to stiffen the body, and storage for racing helmets.
"The high-performance concept left no room for an infotainment system, an MMI monitor or even a loudspeaker," said Audi in a statement.
Inside Line says: If it's a true forerunner to the S1 Quattro, we're definitely interested.

A little bit out of topic, the 2.5L turbo sounds like an interesting alternative to the 3.6L V6 used in the Passat, not with 496hp of course, but somewhere around 300hp.
