GAYDON, England — The Aston Martin Rapide racing car — in near-standard specification — will compete in the 38th ADAC Nurburgring 24-hour race May 15 and 16, the automaker confirmed on Tuesday.
The drumbeat for the Rapide is growing louder, with deliveries of the vehicle set to begin later in April through Aston Martin's 125 global dealers.
The Rapide racing car "will be close to production standard with only essential race safety modifications, interior trim removed to reduce weight, retuned suspension and will run on slick tires designed for track use," said Aston Martin in a statement.
The racing Rapide will be joined by an Aston Martin V12 Vantage modified for racing at the event.
"This race represents the ultimate final engineering durability test for any sports car — it subjects the car to the toughest possible assessment under public scrutiny," said Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin chief executive, in a statement. "The Rapide has the capability to carry four people in comfort but first and foremost, it is a sports car and we will subject it to the same tests we would our other sports cars."
