Gold-Medal Pick Is Aston Martin, Says Skater Lysacek

    3 Ratings

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Olympic Games gold medalist Evan Lysacek, who took the top prize for the U.S. in men's figure skating last Thursday, says he will treat himself to an Aston Martin DBS. The skater reportedly owns a Range Rover but says he now wants the DBS "just like Bond."

Lysacek was quoted by Yahoo! Sports on Monday saying he'll buy the $269,000 sports car in Los Angeles soon after the end of the Olympic Games. Yahoo! Sports quoted Aston Martin Newport Beach salesman Gary Briggs, predictably, as saying the DBS is "very much the gentleman's sports car...a fine choice for an Olympic champion."

Figure skaters may not seem much like sports-car types, but Lysacek's main rival — and silver medalist — Yevgeny Plushenko of Russia was famous for having made a quick U-turn in his Maserati, in years past, to follow the woman who became his first wife.

The DBS's 6.0-liter V12 makes 510 horsepower and, like Lysacek, eschews quadruple spins in favor of understated but undeniable strength.

Inside Line says: Will Plushenko console himself with a Ferrari now, or will he continue this made-for-Bond story by building an underground lair in Siberia to plot world domination? — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent

I think delraylocal and flwind are confusing Evan Lysacek with Johnny Weir (he of the famous pink tassles).

Carguy622: Have you considered maybe he's rich enough that buying a car like that is equivalent to you buying a Civic?

Mrryte: How many Olympic medals of any sort have you won?

Relax guys -- for one thing, what he does with his money is HIS business, and another thing -- yes, high-level figure skaters DO make tons of cash.  With a gold medal, he'll not only be a top draw for a few years, but he'll do the Disney on Ice tour for even more years at a nice salary.  That doesn't even count appearances in Europe, Asia, Africa (yep, even Africa) and South America.  Besides, Olympic skaters make nice money for a long time before they even become Olympians.  It surprised me when I found out how much even good child skaters are paid.  Figure skating is a pretty insular world, which is why most people have no clue.

Welcome to America, home of consumerism.  How about putting that money in the bank, you don't make that much, for that long, as a gold medalist.

Maybe he already has some serious cash though, since he already has a Range Rover.  Then again, I know somebody who has a Range Rover, S-Class, and SL and is up his eyeballs in debt and can't make payroll for his employees sometimes.

I'll take modest car with no debt thanks.

A guy wins ONE gold medal and starts pimpin like he's won the lottery?
No I'm not jealous; but I'm wondering what type of $$$ he makes as an Olympian to own a DBS.....
