New Option for Aston Martin DBS: A $48,000 Swiss Watch

PARIS — For those who are in love with the $265,000 Aston Martin DBS, this should be of interest: Tied in to the 2008 Paris Auto Show was the U.K. company's launch of a $48,000 watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre to go with the car.

The watch, with the catchy name AMVOX2 DBS Transponder, is released just in time for all the hype around the James Bond flick Quantum of Solace, which will hit theaters in mid-November prominently featuring the DBS.

Not only can the industrial-strength Swiss ticker stay faithful at up to 328 feet below the water's surface, but it can also open or lock the DBS on dry land from a distance of up to 33 feet. To lock the doors, the wearer of the watch presses the sapphire watch crystal at the 4 of the watch face, while unlocking is done by pressing the crystal at the 8.

All DBS models come with this software program already included, though the watch is one hell of an extra. Aston chairman Ulrich Bez told IL, "From here on, the plan is to offer all new Astons with this or a very similar option."

And if the original owner of the car sells the DBS? Bez told IL, "The watch would be deprogrammed, but could be reprogrammed to work if the person buys another new Aston Martin."

What this means to you: With abundant new Kuwaiti money backing the company, Aston is finally flagrantly splashing its creativity around just as its wealthy customers desire. — Matt Davis, Correspondent
