New Aston Vanquish on Tap for 2008

SAN DIEGO — Expect Aston Martin to release an overhauled Vanquish coupe in 2008. This redesigned sports car, the company's flagship, is "on the drawing board now," said Bill Donnelly, Aston's North American president, at the company's recent media introduction of the DB9 coupe here. If Aston makes major changes to the Vanquish, it might rename the car.

The Ford subsidiary is planning a lighter Vanquish (or Vanquish substitute), and may improve upon what Donnelly calls the very limited trunk space and rear-seat package of the current model. Power could increase, as could the amount of performance technology — perhaps with the inclusion of, for example, ceramic brakes. Donnelly also said Aston has no plans to add a fourth model line beyond the Vanquish, the DB9 and the forthcoming entry-level V8 Vantage.

What this means to you: Aston Martin no longer has Henrik Fisker around to pen its beautiful coupes, but we're guessing that the Ford owned luxury brand will be able to find a suitable replacement in time to craft the design of its next flagship.
