- A car similar to the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 that starred in Goldfinger and fetched over $4 million at an auction will hit the silver screen in the upcoming 007 film Skyfall.
- Outfitted with machine guns, the car will be driven by actor Daniel Craig in a car chase.
- The 23rd James Bond film Skyfall opens in the U.S. on November 9.
GLENCOE, Scotland — The familiar weapon-clad Aston Martin DB5 that first appeared in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger has been spotted on the set of the new 007 blockbuster Skyfall.
Britain's The Sun caught the vehicle on the Skyfall movie set in Glencoe, Scotland, and the Rupert Murdoch tabloid is reporting that actor Daniel Craig will drive a silver Aston Martin DB5 sports car in the upcoming film. It will be equipped with machine guns similar to the 1964 car that appeared originally in Goldfinger with Sean Connery behind the wheel as Bond.
This Aston Martin DB5 has the same license plate as it did in Goldfinger. A sleek silver model also appeared in films Thunderball, Casino Royale, Tomorrow Never Dies and GoldenEye. Skyfall will be the first time since Goldfinger that the DB5 appears on the silver screen in a car chase.
The car will help celebrate the movie franchise's 50th anniversary, and is similar to, but not the same vehicle as, the one that fetched over $4 million at RM Auctions' Automobiles of London auction in October 2010.
Both the Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar XJ L are rumored to be in the movie as well.
Skyfall is scheduled to hit U.K. theaters October 26 with Craig starring as the suave secret agent Bond and Judi Dench returning again as his boss M. Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Javier Bardem will also appear in the film, which makes the jump across the pond on November 9.
Inside Line says: A DB5 car chase is a great way to pay tribute to the original films in the James Bond franchise.

The great thing about James Bond movies is they are a chick-flick and an action flick all in one.

"Nobody else (minus Porsche) has stuck with the exact same design for such a long time."
Fair enough, @isend2c, although one could argue about how much Astons' recent designs have been "the exact same." However, for me, there's one key difference between Porsche and A-M. IMO, Porsche have stuck with a bland, and to some eyes, not very handsome basic design, whereas the typical Aston Martins of the past 20 years have been drop-dead gorgeous. Viewed that way, continuity of design isn't necessarily a negative. Sort of like waking up every morning with Kate Beckinsale in your bed.... not something I would find objectionable! :-)

At least it's not a new one. It's so difficult to tell the difference between Aston Martins. People say other companies need to try... Nobody else (minus Porsche) has stuck with the exact same design for such a long time.

Why do I fear they're going to destroy it in the chase scene as some sort of "closure" for the symbol of the Old Bond?

I would assume that due to the DB5's increasing rarity and value, the car used for the action sequences will be a kit car.
In Casino Royale and its sequel, an actual DBS was used for close ups but the action shots and crash scene was apparently a rebodied DB9.

My favorite Bond Car, the 1982 Lotus Esprit in "For Your Eyes Only."
