    Just the Facts:
    • Aston Martin plans to launch six models by 2016.
    • All-new models include the Lagonda and Cygnet.
    • Successors to the DB9, DBS, Rapide and Vantage are also in the plan.

GAYDON, England — Aston Martin plans to launch six models by 2016, including the all-new Lagonda and Cygnet, as well as successors to the Rapide, Vantage, DB9 and DBS.

Based on Toyota's iQ minicompact, the Aston Cygnet is slated to go on sale next year and, according to Britain's Autocar, could double the company's sales volume in Europe.

In 2013, Autocar says, Aston plans to unveil a redesigned DB9 with a new cockpit and a revised V12. A reskinned DBS is expected to follow in 2015. A replacement for the Vantage is scheduled in 2014 that includes a weight reduction scheme and a cleaner engine.

Also tentatively penciled in for 2014 is a luxury utility vehicle based loosely on the Lagonda concept from the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, aimed primarily at affluent buyers in Russia and China. The company also wants to reincarnate the Lagonda brand, positioning it below the Aston Martin brand.

Finally, a successor to the recently launched Rapide four-door is on the books for 2016, with production of the second-generation model potentially shifting from Magna-Steyr in Austria back to Gaydon in the U.K.

why why why? why would they make this car?

sorry but aston martin has a very specific image. The rapide was a stretch but it was well executed and held the image. A city car that is just a toyota iq with better body panels and interior is unforgiveable. A mini works because they call it a mini, if it had a bmw badge on the front it wouldn't be half the success it is today.

I'm not saying the cygnet can't be a nice car, but it makes no sense in an aston martin line up.

This has nothing to do with CAFE, TaTa has plenty of small cars to balance out aston.

who exactly would you impress with an aston martin city car?

LB, why would you need to impress ........anyone...... with this car? Its like a MINI .....an upscale well made efficient car.

The cygnet is for CAFE fuel standards. If only people in the US would have a higher gas tax rather than bureaucratic rules. That way Aston could have continued with relatively fuel inefficient cars and been ok.

This aversion to "tax" is very detremental.

Personally, I'd rather wait for the Bentley/ Tata Sub-Continental.

Shouldn't the title read: "Aston Martin to launch 5 models and a tarted-up Toyota IQ in six years"?

Here on this screen is the face of Aston Martin's downfall. For shame Aston! Don't let the beancounters tell you that you have to do this! There is no demand for a luxury econobox anyway and the Lagonda is an okay idea i suppose(judging by Porsche's success with it's Cayenne) but you gotta make it right. You're better than this!

    or an economy box.

maybe it's a sign that Porsche is secretely working on one too.
