DETROIT — The 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit will team with the MGM Grand hotel and casino this year, giving ticket buyers a showcase of luxury vehicles in a separate location from the auto show, a week before the show itself opens to the public at Cobo Center. "High-end luxury vehicles" from such marques as Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce and Spyker will be part of the MGM Grand display.
Detroit auto show organizers say they are looking to "generate positive economic ripple effects on the local economy" by adding the second venue and the earlier viewing dates to the calendar.
Tickets, at $25 per person, allow one-day entry to the Gallery on January 11 or 12 as well as to the Detroit auto show, which is open to the public January 16-24. They are available online.
Another bonus to make showgoers crane their necks: Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, has announced she and an entourage made up of other members of the House leadership will be dropping by the auto show. Pelosi has been a major force behind the Cash for Clunkers and auto bailout moves by the Obama administration.
Inside Line says: Detroit takes a leap of faith as it hopes to build excitement around the auto show at a very tough time for the industry and the city. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
