TURIN, Italy — It doesn't have a formal name yet, but Pininfarina has released a sketch of a concept spider based on an Alfa Romeo two-seater that it says pays homage to Alfa's centenary, as well as to the Italian carrozzeria's own illustrious 80-year history.

Details are thin, but the Pininfarina car is said to be one of three concepts commissioned by Alfa not only to mark the brand's 100th anniversary, but to point to the future.

Additional Alfa-based concepts are being created by Stile Bertone and Giugiaro Italdesign. The Pininfarina and Bertone concepts are based on the Alfa 8C Competizione, while the Italdesign concept is based on the new Giulietta that will be formally unveiled at Geneva, according to italiaspeed.com.

Inside Line says: Alfa should have plenty of buzz in Geneva. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
