GENEVA — Alfa Romeo's flagship 159 model will receive two new engines for both the sedan and wagon models that make more power from smaller displacement compared to current powertrains. The cars are on display at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show this week.
The performance-oriented 1.75-liter TBi engine produces 200 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. That engine appeared in Geneva in a TI sport model that includes lowered suspension, larger tires, 19-inch alloy wheels and larger aluminum brakes with red calipers. The interior of the TI features sport seats covered in perforated red leather stitched with a red Alfa Romeo logo.
Alfa Romeo is showing a 170-hp 2.0-liter engine in the 159 Sportwagon. That car makes the run to 60 mph in less than 9.0 seconds and has a top speed of 134 mph. Both engines will be available in April.
