For 2009 the Audi A6 gets a few minor changes - except for those tough-looking R8-style LED running lights up front, you might mistake it for last yearís model.
The front bumper and grille are revised too, but thereís a much more substantial addition lurking just behind that grille.
The car still wears a T badge, as in 3.0T-- but the T no longer stands for turbocharged. Replacing last yearís normally aspirated V6 is a new, supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and itís good for 300 hp.
According to the EPA, this high-performance Audi V6 is rated at a surprisingly efficient 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. While on paper this is only 1 mpg better than last year, it's important to remember that this new supercharged V6 delivers 50 hp more than the old turbo V6.
In normal driving conditions, the supercharged Audi feels responsive, powerful, and sounds great. At the track the supercharged A6 gets from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph.
But the A6 3.0T feels surprisingly average in the slalom. It does get through the cones at 64.6 miles per hour, but this slightly sporty A6 strives for both a comfortable ride and dynamic handling yet misses the mark on both counts. Somehow, the ride manages to be stiff-legged but thereís still lots of body roll.
The A6's interior dimensions and design are unchanged, but some aluminum touches have been splashed around and some new materials have been used.
While the 2009 Audi A6 3.0T is altogether pleasant, it should be better. Itís not an all-out performer yet itís not a full-on luxury car either. Ultimately, it just doesnít get our blood pumping. And thatís a terrible thing to say about a supercharged Audi sedan.
